ISSUED ON MAY 30, 2021

After the unlawful arrest of Mr. Cassien NTAMUHANGA on Sunday, May 23, 2021 by the Mozambican police in Maputo, earlier this week, one commander of one police station of the Mozambican police forces confirmed that Cassien Ntamuhanga has been detained in that station under his supervision.

After the unlawful arrest of Mr. Cassien NTAMUHANGA on Sunday, May 23, 2021 by the Mozambique police in Maputo, earlier this week, the commander of one of the bodies of the Mozambican police forces confirmed that Cassien NTAMUHANGA has been detained in one of their detention cells.

Since Friday May 28, 2021 the Mozambican authorities changed dramatically the narrative and denied any knowledge of Mr. Cassien Ntamuhanga.

We, the Rwandan Alliance for the National Pact RANP-ABARYANKUNA, have just learned that some elements of the Mozambican police forces are working with Rwanda agents, coordinated by the Embassy of Rwanda in Mozambique, to kidnap forcibly Cassien Ntamuhanga by road using Mozambique-Tanzania- Rwanda land borders.

In the same way of the internationally known Paul Rusesabagina’s case, we learned from the same source that they are planning to inject him a powerful tranquilizer and “transport” him as “a luggage”.

We call upon the countries bordering Rwanda and Mozambique to be on alert and avoid being complicit in this unlawful kidnapping in total contradiction of the international law and international treaties they ratified.

We ask the international community and human rights organizations to call on Mozambique to act in accordance with Mozambican and international law.

We call for the mobilization of all Rwandans and friends of Rwanda to raise their voices for the release of Cassien Ntamuhanga by asking the Mozambican authorities to admit what they have already admitted, that he is in their hands.

We reaffirm that we have tangible evidences and testimonies that it was the Mozambique police who arrested Mr. Ntamuhanga Cassien including the confirmation one of the commanders of a police station where Cassien was detained under his supervision.

In case Mr. Ntamuhanga Cassien is found in Rwanda, the Government of Mozambique will have to face the justice for this imminent violation of the international law and basic human rights under a shameful manipulation of the Kigali dictatorial regime.

In the meantime, we continue, with the help of our lawyer, to act towards the Mozambican authorities so that they respect and apply the Mozambican and international law.
