RANP-ABARYANKUNA PLANS TO SUE THE STATE OF MOZAMBIQUE IN THE INTERNATIONAL COURTS OVER THE CASE OF CASSIEN NTAMUHANGA.

The journalist, political refugee, political activist for reconciliation and Rwandan unity, our founding member, was arrested on May 23, 2021 at his home by the Mozambique Police.

Arrested at his home at Inhaca Island, he was immediately led to the nearest police station (20th Mozambican Police Station) where he was been handcuffed by the Mozambican police before being transported by boat to the city of Maputo and jailed.

Mozambican authorities continue to deny having arrested and knowing Mr. Ntamuhanga Cassien, although a person whose identity cannot be communicated now has been able to perceive him in a Mozambican police custody cell. We have gathered all the evidence and testimonies that allow us to reaffirm that it was the Mozambique police who arrested and is detaining Ntamuhanga Cassien.

Our lawyer has filed, with evidence that police of Mozambique is involved, a request to the prosecutor of the city of Maputo to shed light on the whereabouts of Ntamuhanga Cassien and that the law be respected.

We continue to call on the State of Mozambique to respect the law. We are awaiting the response of the Maputo City Prosecutor and are determined, given the evidence in our possession, to sue the State of Mozambique through all the Mozambican and international legal mechanisms in the case the basic human rights and dignity of Cassien NTAMUHANGA will be violated, for instance if Mr. Cassien Ntamuhanga is found in Rwanda or his whereabouts remain unknown by them.

We are still asking the international community and human rights organizations to call on Mozambique to act in accordance with Mozambican and international law.

In the meantime, our mobilization to ask the State of Mozambique to distance itself from the dictatorship of Kigali by acting according to the law and international treaties that it has ratified will go on.
